Grid And Bare It

If you're anything like me, then even though you weren't at New York Fashion Week you were still following all the fashions from afar. With so many forms of social media there's so many ways to see what was happening without having to be there.
What stood out to me in so many pictures was all the grid prints. It seemed everyone was wearing some variation of it. And so many collections offered grid print pieces. Seems to me that the grid print will be replacing stripes this season. And don't get me wrong, I love stripes but the grid print is a fresh take on the classic stripe. So I went looking for ways to work this new print into my Fall wardrobe along with my new Phillip Lim for Target purchases.

WIW: Bright & Bold

If there's anything anyone knows about me, it's that I'm a fan of color, and I stand by the statement, live colorfully. There's nothing sad about bright colors, they're always uplifting even on the gloomiest of days. Not that we're having any of those in SoCal anytime soon. But as I put together this post, I'm also contemplating an all black outfit for tomorrow's adventure. Why you may ask, because a girl friend of mine has invited me to a taping of "The Voice." And well, dress code is dark colors. BOO! But to get to see "The Voice" it's all worth going dark. HA!

WIW: Summer Stripes

I'm assuming that by now, you all may have noticed my love of prints, all prints from florals to seahorses. I've rocked them all this Summer, but I feel like there is one print that stands the test of time. Stripes. They're just classic. And all Summer long when I don't know what to wear I just go right to my striped tee and find some inspiration. Pair it with shorts, jeans, skirt, or layered with a dress, it all works. You really can't go wrong with a striped tee, I guess that's probably why I own just about every kind of striped top, long sleeve, short sleeve, tank, peplum, the list goes on.
Today's outfit stemmed from the fact that I literally had no idea what I wanted to wear, and so I went straight for the stripes and kept the look simple. But even simple can be fun. I decided to change it up a bit glam up my typical casual Summer look by adding some fabulous metallic platforms.
Now, when I ordered these shoes I wasn't quite sure if I could rock them because they were a little naughty to me. But I've become obsessed with them. Worn casually they're not as naughty as I thought.

WIW: A Summer Of Hats

Before this Summer, I was never into hats, and I generally still detest most hats. But I've finally found a few styles that I've grown quite fond of. Obviously the Panama Hat is a Summer staple, which I also keep in the back of my SUV  because it comes in handy for just about any occasion. And this vintage style boat hat has really grown on me as well. It's playful and more feminine then the Panama hat but it's brim is similar in size. This hat is perfect for picnicking, afternoons at the park, and for just about all those other occasions when my trusty Panama hat is just too casual.
Outfit Details:
Hat: Forever 21 [n/a online, similar here] | Vest: American Eagle [similar here] | Top: J. Crew Factory | Skirt: Threadscence [old, similar here] | Shoes: J. Crew Factory | Bracelets: J. Crew, Charming Charlie's, Stella & Dot

And aside from being cute, hats provide shade from this unbearable heat. If you know anything about me, then you know I hate getting too much sun and tanning. It ages you too quickly so prevent those wrinkles and grab a hat and some sunblock this Summer. [That's my mommy tip ;)]

Hope you all are staying cool in this Summer heat!

Steal Her Style: Kate Beckinsale's Color Blocked Outfit

So my inspiration this week comes from the beautiful, Kate Beckinsale. I mean come on, she's gorgeous who wouldn't want to look like her.  And she totally rocked the color blocked trend like nobody's business.
Source: Listal via Pinterest
I was able to recreate this look with some great affordable pieces from H&M. While my top is more of an orange then Kate's, it still gives off a great bright summer-y vibe. And it's currently available at H&M for $4.95! Ridiculousness right!? When I saw the price tag I was immediately shocked. And, no it wasn't on sale. It's actually part of their Summer essentials that are starting at $4.95. Pretty amazing if you ask me.
I also paired this top with a wrap skirt from H&M that I got at the end of last Summer but have only worn once. And it just so happened to be the same color as Kate's. Like Kate, I kept the styling and jewelry simple to really let the color blocked outfit standout on its own. Plus I was taking my daughter on a preschool tour so I didn't want to be jingle jangling while the kids were trying to learn. Which is also why I opted for nude flats instead of  pumps. Walking on a playground in heels wasn't something I felt like trying to do especially when the preschool happened to also be a farm.
Outfit Details:
Top: H&M [available in store, similar here] | Skirt: H&M [old, skirt in similar color here] | Shoes: J. Crew Factory | Necklace: Lotus Blossom Design | Sunnies: Ray-Ban

I'm loving these bright hues this Summer. How about you?
Hope you enjoyed this week's style inspiration.

Friday Fancies: Sunny Yellows + Prints

It's that time of the week again, it's finally Friday and that means I get to share some of the things that have caught my eye this week. Maybe with some of the Memorial Day sales I can get a little extra discount on some of these pretties.

I think I have a thing for yellow. I didn't even realize that pretty much everything I've been wanting is yellow until I put together this style board. Oh well, what better way to embrace the warm weather then with this sunny color.
Shorts: American Eagle | Shoes: Zara | Dress: ASOS | Sunnies: Anthropologie | Skirt: J. Crew Factory | Dress: Forever 21 | Bikini: Topshop
Well I hope you all enjoy your long weekend. And happy Memorial Day shopping!

WIW: Bring On The Brights

I've never been one to shy away from bold colors so as Summer approaches my outfits tend to become quite colorful. Everything from neon's to hot pinks fill my closet. It's probably why I love the warm weather.

As soon as I saw how perfectly pink this skirt was I knew I had to have it. I must confess that I am a girly girl to a 'T' and anything pink generally grabs my attention, especially when it's Barbie pink like this J. Crew Factory skirt.

I love that a colorful outfit can just brighten your day. And for busy days like the one I had, a bright outfit can help keep you feeling energized to keep going. Paired with cute sandals for going to dance class and running errands or dressed up with a pair of wedges, this bright Summer look will most definitely be on repeat over the next few months.
Outfit Details:
Top: Forever 21 [similar here] | Skirt: J. Crew Factory | Sandals: Target | Belt: from another dress | Necklace: via Nordstrom Rack | Bracelets: Forever 21, J. Crew, Stella & Dot, and Groopdealz | Sunnies: House of Harlow 1960
Another little plus about this skirt, the length is just right for getting down and playing out front with Baby Sis while Big Sis was napping.
And I would also like to quickly Thank Amber over at Real Girl Glam for choosing my as one of her Real Girls With Style. If you blogging ladies haven't linked up with her yet, definitely check out her blog.
As always, Thank you for reading!

WIW: Black and White + Bargain Shopping Tips

Creating stylish looks on a budget is my motto. While I love designer brands just like everyone else, I know it's not reasonable to only wear big labels. Plus it's not really my style to flash a bunch of labels. I love stores like Forever 21 and H&M because they allow you to create on trend looks without blowing your budget. Other stores I love are Nordstrom Rack and J. Crew Factory. Some online retailers I'm sure you've probably heard me raving about too are ASOS, Groopdealz, Very Jane, and Shoe Dazzle. All which provide trendy pieces at great prices and even free shipping.

I think when you're able to mix high end and low end pieces is when you're most fashionable. Then you aren't dictated by labels and can create your own looks. Like this black and white look I wore this weekend, all the pieces were purchased at bargain prices and from most of the retailers I listed above. Aside from my bag and sunnies all pieces were under $20 per item.

The best way to score bargains is to sign up for email subscriptions. Yes, they are annoying to get all the time in your inbox, but honestly there are some great deals. For example, recently Forever 21 sent out a "Friends & Family" offer of 21% off your purchase. Come on, Forever 21 never offers discounts on their full priced items. So I was definitely all over this sale checking out things that I had put on the back burner because I wasn't sure it was necessary. And if you're a J. Crew addict like I am then you need to join their Factory mailing list. It gives you first dibs on new items plus free shipping the day before they go public online. Another little tidbit about J. Crew and their Factory websites, they always update their site at exactly midnight or 9pm for all us west coasters. Which means sales immediately go up at that time and they restock then too.  I almost always check both websites before going to bed. Call me crazy, but I've managed to score major sales on in demand items this way such as the sequined chevron tee last Fall.

Another little secret of mine is the Wrapp app. If you don't have it yet get it. It works with several large retailers like Old Navy, Victoria's Secret, and H&M, allowing you to send e-gift cards through their app. But what makes it so great is they often have promotions where you can get free gift cards. H&M, always offers a $6 gift amount that you can give to friends and receive from friends for FREE! I am constantly giving friends them and getting them in return. They sometimes even offer a $10 one and all you have to do is send your friends the free gift amount. I've saved so much money at H&M through this app. Gap and Old Navy sometimes offer free gift cards worth $5. So I'm telling you this app is a must have if you're a shopaholic like me.
