Cheers to the 90's

Even though it's 2014, I swear when I go into stores like Forever 21 and H&M, it's like I'm right back in my childhood. It's like the 90's have returned, denim skirts, acid wash everything, overalls, crop tops, mix and match separates and even keds, these are all things I grew up wearing. Now they've all come back in style again.

Anyways, if you haven't taken notice of it yourself then just head on over to your local mall and check out the 90's revival. But for many of us it's a little too much. So instead it's a better idea to just take a small element of the 90's trend and work it into your everyday look, to keep from seeming like you're trying to hard.

I vowed I would never tie another shirt or sweatshirt around my waist after about the 10th grade, but I guess I'm breaking that vow. Because I actually find if paired with a chic pair of faux leather shorts it can really work. And don't forget to add some sparkle and girly accessories to pull this look together and keep it from looking like you were just too lazy to hold your shirt.

Black, White, & Pink

Hey Everyone! I hope you all enjoyed your last official weekend of Summer. If you follow me on Instagram, then you should know I packed the girls up bright and early and headed to Target yesterday morning to snag some Phillip Lim goodies. And so glad I did. I got my hands on the very limited yellow mini satchel. Woohoo!!! We were second in line, that's not saying much since there were probably only about 10 of us in line total, perks of living in a small town. No one to fight over purses with. HAHAHAHA! Well I hope you all had a chance to pick up some goodies from Target's collaboration. Can't wait to share with you all the things I picked up. Check them out in the upcoming posts.

Today, I wanted to share a cute little crop top I came across and had to have. Now, the only other time I wore a crop top this Summer was in Maui. I felt like it was appropriate and didn't feel like it was too scandalous as a mom. All Summer long the trend was going strong and I kept wanting to try it again but in a more modest way. Kind of an oxymoron I know, but I knew that if I searched long and hard I would find a crop top that wouldn't bare too much and could actually look chic.

I just recently found this great crop top from Zara. With its long sleeves and loser fit on the body it was just what I had been looking for. And since then I've been loving it. I can pair it with any high waisted skirt and it just barely shows a sliver of skin.
Outfit Details:
Jacket: c/o Aeropostale | Top: Zara | Skirt: H&M [old, similar here] | Shoes: Coach via TJ Maxx | Necklace: Jane [aka Very Jane] | Bracelet: c/o Lotus Blossom Design | Sunnies: Windsor
And how cute is the leather bracelet I'm wearing!? It's a new piece from A Lotus Blossom Design's blogger inspired collection [check it out here]. I'm so flattered that they have been inspired by style and come up with such a great piece to share.
Also you've still got time to enter to win the Anthro Inspired Mint Bauble Necklace here. Don't wait because the winner will be announced Friday.

Rhinestones + Elephants

First I want to start off saying that we're moving!!! Crazy business. Granted it's just across town, but still exciting. Thinking about having to move everything though is daunting. I'm not really the greatest at condensing things down so we may have an issue. Especially with all the baby stuff. I'm just not ready to part with any of it. And that's the other sad part, we've been in our house for 5 years now and we brought both girls home here so I may cry when we do finally say good-bye to this house. Also I'll most likely be posting less since I'll be packing and cleaning the house. And that giveaway I promised last week, I'll have to hold off on until next week. Sorry!
On to other things, with the recent Labor Day sales, I just had to share with you my favorite find, the J. Crew Tilda rhinestone top. Since it's release earlier this year, I've had my eye on it, but was not willing to shell out the money for it. But lucky me, I found it marked down plus the additional 30% off at J. Crew in SD. I snatched up the very last one in my size and scurried off to the registers. I couldn't believe my luck. I just adore the rhinestone detailing on the collar. I immediately washed and pressed it so I could wear it. HAHA! When I love something I just can't help myself. Did you guys find anything amazing during all the Labor Day sales?

WIW: Feeling Retro

It's all about the maxi dress this week! And this striped number I picked up at the Old Navy Blogger Night gives off a great retro vibe. Playing on that retro feel, I paired this dress with a gold turban headband from Jameson Monroe. There are so many great turban headbands available right now, but this gold one just grabbed my attention.

Beyond the fun 70's vibe this dress gives off, it's fast becoming a quick go-to piece when I'm in a hurry or too busy to put together an outfit. This week has been an absolutely crazy one with, Big Sis starting preschool, a trip to Disneyland, playdates, and dance class too. So there's nothing better then a great maxi dress that looks stylish without trying. And the swing fit of this maxi in particular leaves so much room for movement and feels so soft and airy which with the latest heat wave is totally necessary.

WIW: A Weekend in Stylish Seahorses

Happy Monday!
I hope you all enjoyed your Father's Day weekend. We certainly did with lots of fun family outings from BBQ's to a picnic at the beach. Weekends are the best!
If you have not stopped into your local Target recently, I highly recommend you do so, because they've been hitting all the right style marks this Spring & Summer. This outfit I'm wearing is almost head to toe Target. Ok, I may be a little obsessed with their seahorse print [seahorse print shirt worn here]. But honestly I can never resist a fun print and seahorses just scream summertime. Plus at the prices Target offers, really who can say "no."
The thing that really got me with this dress was the quality. The material is quite nice and easy to wear all Summer long, even when it's 100 degrees out. Cheap clothing usually means the quality is lacking, but I didn't feel like this dress was made poorly at all. Kudos to Target for really stepping up their game this year.
This dress made for the perfect BBQ attire on Saturday. I paired it with a must-have Summer accessory, a great straw tote, and I was ready for a casual afternoon hanging out with family and friends.
Outfit Details:
Dress: Target | Sandals: Target | Bag: via Marshalls [loving this one] | Necklace: Groopdealz | Bracelets: Lotus Blossom Design, Stella & Dot | Sunnies: Coach

A little tidbit, I found this fabulous straw tote at Marshalls. I had been looking and looking since before we went to Maui, but none really captured all the things I was looking for. That is, until I laid my eyes on this baby. Perfectly structured, but roomy enough to fit diapers and baby supplies as well as a magazine and sunscreen. Plus the pretty paisley print lining and bow kinda sold it.

And on Sunday, the hubs and I packed up the girls and headed to the beach with the in laws in tow for a little Father's day picnic at the beach. I didn't get too many pictures since I was chasing a 1 year old around trying to keep her from eating too much sand. But here are a couple from our beach trip.
She's trying to find Daddy out in the water, or maybe she was looking at the dolphins swimming by.
Check out the Despicable Me blimp flying by. Baby Sis kept pointing it out.
My loves playing in the sand while Daddy is somewhere in the water. And how adorable is the Cinderella princess towel cover up? It was a gift for Baby Sis's birthday from one of my girlfriends. The cutest robe/cover up ever. You can always be a princess.
Outfit Details:
Hat: Cotton On [available online in natural] | Top: H&M [old]
And of course what would the day be without a shameless selfie? HAHA!
Also, a big Congratulations to Alycia, Executive Editor at Cup of Ting. Alycia is the lucky winner of the Shabby Apple giveaway and will be receiving a $50 giftcard to spend at their online boutique. Congratulations again Alycia! I'm truly and utterly jealous! For all of you who entered, Thank you! And be on the look out for some more fun Summer giveaways ahead.

Have a fabulous week! Muah!

Two-fer Tuesday: The Tunic

This season one of my favorite pieces has to be the tunic. It's such a versatile piece in my eyes. I picked up this particular one at H&M right before we headed to Maui and got so much use out of it. But even since then I've found so many ways and reasons to wear it beyond just being a swim cover up. Plus there are so many fun prints out there right now. Check out these ones that have caught my eye from J. Crew, ASOS, and J. Crew Factory.

Look 1: Boho for the Day
I really enjoy this look for the day. It's a little festival but not so overdone that it can't be worn for everyday errands.
Look 2: Tunic Turned Dressy
And with a quick change of shoes and a few accessories you're set to go to brunch or even dinner. I actually wore this recently when the Hubs and I went to Paradise Point in San Diego.
The tunic dress is a forgiving piece and can really work for most body types. Belting it can create shape if you're like me and straight up and down. But it also cinches and gives the appearance of a smaller waist if you've got assets elsewhere. And I even like it alone without all the fuss.
Outfit Details:
Look 1 - Vest: American Eagle [only in stores, similar here] | Tunic: H&M | Shoes: H&M [similar here and here] | Necklace: Forever 21 | Bracelets: Lotus Blossom Design, Groopdealz | Sunnies: Coach
Look 2 - Tunic: H&M | Shoes: Rock & Republic [similar here] | Belt: Target | Necklace: Luxe Craving | Bracelets: Lotus Blossom Design, Stella & Dot, Betsey Johnson viz Nordstrom Rack

So if you're looking for a versatile piece that will last you all Summer, I definitely recommend trying this look. H&M is constantly updating their stock and I've seen so many great prints all for $12-$15. Which really can't be beat.

Have a great week! And as always thank you for reading!

Two-fer Tuesday: Neon Heels + Head Stylist

I hope you all had a wonderful Mother's day weekend. Celebrating Baby Sis's 1st birthday and spending time with my baby girls was the best gift I could ask for.

This week for Two Ways Tuesday, I wanted to share 2 very different ways to pull off the neon shoe trend. My sister Tiffany actually was the inspiration for this post. She recently just got a pair and wanted me to put together some ways to wear them. So I thought I would share it with you all too since this trend seems to only be getting hotter as it's beginning to warm up. And surprisingly neon seems to go with everything.

I personally love this trend for Summer, it's a fun way of adding color to an outfit and a bit unexpected. I've been obsessed with my Prabal Gurung for Target neon sandals since I laid eyes on them. Since the release of the Prabal Gurung collection, I've even spotted some great dupes if you weren't able to get your hands on a pair and still are looking for something similar.

Casual in Neon
You really can't go wrong pairing a pair of neon heels with a classic tee and boyfriend jeans. The neon pumps give this otherwise Plain Jane look a sense of polish and style. Top it off with a Panama hat for Summer creating a great chic Summer daytime look and some arm candy for a little glitz.

Speaking of arm candy, check out the pretty floral enamel bangle I'm wearing, isn't it pretty? Gina at Lotus Blossom Design and I collaborated on creating a piece that was inspired by my style. And I can't tell you how gorgeous this bangle is in person. Go and pick yourself up one at Lotus Blossom Design. I'm such a lucky girl to have such a sweet and talented friend.
Outfit Details:
Shirt: Unknown via Marshalls | Jeans: American Eagle | Shoes: Prabal Gurung for Target [similar here and here] | Bag: Lockheart via Nordstrom Rack | Hat: H&M [recent, but they're selling out quickly, similar here and here] | Necklaces: Groopdealz | Bracelets: Lotus Blossom Design [collabortaion piece available here], Groopdealz | Sunnies: Coach

Brunch Attire in Neon
For a more pulled together look, I paired my neon heels with a purple shift dress and layered with a striped top. This is perfect for weekend brunching with friends and family. Don't be afraid to pair neons with other bold colors. These neon heels are less overwhelming then you would believe, and provide that little bit of surprise.

WIW: Black and White + Bargain Shopping Tips

Creating stylish looks on a budget is my motto. While I love designer brands just like everyone else, I know it's not reasonable to only wear big labels. Plus it's not really my style to flash a bunch of labels. I love stores like Forever 21 and H&M because they allow you to create on trend looks without blowing your budget. Other stores I love are Nordstrom Rack and J. Crew Factory. Some online retailers I'm sure you've probably heard me raving about too are ASOS, Groopdealz, Very Jane, and Shoe Dazzle. All which provide trendy pieces at great prices and even free shipping.

I think when you're able to mix high end and low end pieces is when you're most fashionable. Then you aren't dictated by labels and can create your own looks. Like this black and white look I wore this weekend, all the pieces were purchased at bargain prices and from most of the retailers I listed above. Aside from my bag and sunnies all pieces were under $20 per item.

The best way to score bargains is to sign up for email subscriptions. Yes, they are annoying to get all the time in your inbox, but honestly there are some great deals. For example, recently Forever 21 sent out a "Friends & Family" offer of 21% off your purchase. Come on, Forever 21 never offers discounts on their full priced items. So I was definitely all over this sale checking out things that I had put on the back burner because I wasn't sure it was necessary. And if you're a J. Crew addict like I am then you need to join their Factory mailing list. It gives you first dibs on new items plus free shipping the day before they go public online. Another little tidbit about J. Crew and their Factory websites, they always update their site at exactly midnight or 9pm for all us west coasters. Which means sales immediately go up at that time and they restock then too.  I almost always check both websites before going to bed. Call me crazy, but I've managed to score major sales on in demand items this way such as the sequined chevron tee last Fall.

Another little secret of mine is the Wrapp app. If you don't have it yet get it. It works with several large retailers like Old Navy, Victoria's Secret, and H&M, allowing you to send e-gift cards through their app. But what makes it so great is they often have promotions where you can get free gift cards. H&M, always offers a $6 gift amount that you can give to friends and receive from friends for FREE! I am constantly giving friends them and getting them in return. They sometimes even offer a $10 one and all you have to do is send your friends the free gift amount. I've saved so much money at H&M through this app. Gap and Old Navy sometimes offer free gift cards worth $5. So I'm telling you this app is a must have if you're a shopaholic like me.

WIW: Peek-a-Boo Peplum + Blue Nile Giveaway [closed]

I recently purchased this eyelet peplum top from Forever 21 and I can't even begin to tell you how much I love it. What's more perfect for warm weather then a little eyelet and paired with peplum, it's like perfection. And personally, I love that it's unlined. The peek-a-boo effect gives it a little more edge then your typical lined eyelet garments and for the 100+ degree temperatures lurking in the near future it'll definitely provide a little ventilation.
As soon as I picked this top up, my mind went racing with all the cute ways I could wear it. Later in the week, I  happened to pick up my mail and found a beautiful pair of sterling silver earrings from Blue Nile. They have graciously sent me a pair of Mother's Day and it must have been a sign because the leaf shape mirrors the print of the eyelet peplum top.
Outfit Details:
Top: Forever 21 [recent] | Jeans: American Eagle [similar here] | Shoes: Target [on sale in some stores] | Bag: Target [sold out, but I saw a similar one recently at TJ Maxx] | Bracelet: Groopdealz [similar here] | Earrings: Blue Nile Diamond c/o
How pretty are these earrings? I'm not a huge fan of dangly type earrings because they weigh down my earlobes and I just don't like that feeling. But these ones are absolutely the opposite. They're so lightweight. I've always heard such great things about Blue Nile from their quality to their customer service These earrings did not disappoint! So ladies if you're thinking of pampering yourselves this Mother's Day or picking out your own gift for the hubs to buy definitely check out Blue Nile. They're even offering 10% off your purchase using the code, "momgift13" that's good until June 30, 2013.

And if you follow me on Instagram you may already know Blue Nile kindly sent along a second pair for me to give away to one lucky Pigtails & Pearls reader. So go on and enter! [contest open to U.S. residences]
Good Luck from the girls and I!
