Denim Days

There was a time in my life where I absolutely dreaded denim. And honestly I can't believe I ever felt that way. I blame the awkward middle school years and questionable fashion choices for those feelings. I just can't imagine anything better than a few great denim staples and that's what this denim vest really is. It's such a great layering piece, especially since it's been too warm for a denim jacket but still cool enough in the evenings for light outerwear.

Cheers to the 90's

Even though it's 2014, I swear when I go into stores like Forever 21 and H&M, it's like I'm right back in my childhood. It's like the 90's have returned, denim skirts, acid wash everything, overalls, crop tops, mix and match separates and even keds, these are all things I grew up wearing. Now they've all come back in style again.

Anyways, if you haven't taken notice of it yourself then just head on over to your local mall and check out the 90's revival. But for many of us it's a little too much. So instead it's a better idea to just take a small element of the 90's trend and work it into your everyday look, to keep from seeming like you're trying to hard.

I vowed I would never tie another shirt or sweatshirt around my waist after about the 10th grade, but I guess I'm breaking that vow. Because I actually find if paired with a chic pair of faux leather shorts it can really work. And don't forget to add some sparkle and girly accessories to pull this look together and keep it from looking like you were just too lazy to hold your shirt.

Whiten Your Day

It only feels right that for my first blog post back, I share one of my favorite Spring and Summer looks, white on white. I don't know about you guys but it's already been well over 90 degrees here in So Cal, so an all white look always seems to keep me cool.
Jacket: Abercrombie & Fitch [from my college days, similar here & here] | Top: Forever 21 [similar here] | Jeans: American Eagle [similar here] | Shoes: Zara | Bag: Phillip Lim for Target | Sunnies: Ray-Ban [vintage, current version here] | Watch: Michael Kors | Necklace: Groopdealz | Bracelet: Lulu's
A tip for creating your on all white outfit is try mixing textures, like I did with the eyelet peplum. It keeps the look fresh and effortless. Best part is we all have various white pieces in our closets, so it's an easy and cheap look to create. You don't need to go out and find trendy pieces that either you never wear again or only lasts a season. White will always be in.

Leo + Camo

I finally wore pants!!! Woohoo! It decided to cool off enough to actually warrant putting on pants. I can't believe I'm actually excited about that. I'm usually all about dresses, but I'm ready for Fall now and so ready for the hot weather to take a hike.

But back to being able to wear pants, I have been eager to break out my camo pants for awhile now. So it had to be the first pair I wore this Fall. And why not pair it with one of Fall's hottest neutral...LEOPARD. If I had to name one Fall must-have it would be leopard shoes. Anything from flats to heels, every woman needs a pair. I may have every kind of leopard shoe. It makes for a great neutral yet makes a bold statement.

I absolutely adore these leopard heels because of the t-strap. I found them on brand spanking new on Poshmark for a steal and I couldn't help myself. But I made the mistake of wearing these heels to Big Sis's dance class the other day and when we had to go in and see the little girls, I had to stand closest to the entrance and refrain from walking around so I wouldn't ruin the dance floors. The ONE day I decide to actually wear heels to watch dance practice is the day they have to invite the mom's in. Just great! I guess I'll be sticking to flats or wedges for dance class.

Shifty

Yes, it's Fall. And yes, I'm still wearing neon. It's a bit hard to jump head first into Fall fashion when it's still so warm out during the day. I try to work in Fall colors or trends but then I go outside and it's 90 degrees and it's got me feeling all summery again. It's not until after 4 in the afternoon that it starts to cool. So for now I'm still strutting about town in my Summer favorites. And this little neon DVF number is amongst my favorites. It needs nothing to give it pizzazz and that may be the reason I love it so much. It stands out all on its own no statement necklace or arm party needed. It's a comfy number that I can literally throw on in a rush and head out the door to do my morning errands and preschool drop off.

Sporting a Leather Cap 2 Ways

So my good friend Bianca over at Lotus Blossom Design had me re-thinking my ban against baseball caps. All Summer long I lived in my Panama hat and my big floppy sun hats. But now that it's officially Fall it's time to find a new hat for the season. And I've been seeing a lot of faux leather baseball caps. But I've always kept a distance from them because I swear I look like an Asian tourist and well that's not the cutest look. However, after seeing how cute B looked in her's I thought I would give it a second chance.
So after dropping Big Sis off at preschool, Baby Sis and I ran our errands and did our typical mall crawl. And I stumbled upon this lovely bordeaux faux leather cap. It was love at first sight. I loved that it wasn't your typical black faux leather, and don't get me wrong there's nothing wrong with that. I just felt like black faux leather was a little too edgy for my taste, but the rich wine color just called out to me. Gave it a try, and off to the register we went.
Long story, short, I've been pretty much living in it all weekend. Can't get enough of this hat. I've literally been planning my outfits around it. Which leads me to today's look(s). I decided since I had so much wearing it all weekend, I would share with you guys 2 different ways to style a faux leather baseball cap.

Grid And Bare It

If you're anything like me, then even though you weren't at New York Fashion Week you were still following all the fashions from afar. With so many forms of social media there's so many ways to see what was happening without having to be there.
What stood out to me in so many pictures was all the grid prints. It seemed everyone was wearing some variation of it. And so many collections offered grid print pieces. Seems to me that the grid print will be replacing stripes this season. And don't get me wrong, I love stripes but the grid print is a fresh take on the classic stripe. So I went looking for ways to work this new print into my Fall wardrobe along with my new Phillip Lim for Target purchases.
